Getaway

This past weekend, Jack and I escaped from the hustle and bustle of the city and spent a few days at his family's rustic cottage in Penn's Creek, PA.

Penn's Creek is a quiet place in Amish country that sits in the foothills below the Appalacian Mountains. Here's a few pictures...

    It was definitely nice to actually take a vacation together, no matter how short! Recently, we've been taking most of our trip separately.

    And, yes! All these photos were taken with my iPhone, and I even wrote the blog post and uploaded the images from it. Ain't technology great!

    "Hopefully I will never have a reason to go to Lewistown Hospital, but I will definitely check it out from the outside next time I'm in town. Small world, huh? Did you live in Lewistown or just do this one project there?"

    Yeah, I guess I should have been clearer that if you have reason to DRIVE BY the hospital ;-) I'm from Altoona and lived in State College when I did a series of projects at Lewistown. Also at Geisinger.

    there you are! i'm so glad you had the chance to get away. some of my family lives in terry hill (sp?) pa (also an amish country) and every time i visit i am stunned at the beauty of it all. a rustic cottage? ahh, im so jealous :) i get a little vacation in about 2 weeks but it's to crazy new york city! glad you're home safe and i hope you're all rested up :)

    I think a trip to either Ecuador or NOLA would be amazing with Habitat! The people are really great as long as you are there to really work. I will say this, because so much of the touristy parts of NOLA are back and the more expensive areas are back together I think NOLA has gotten forgotten. We worked in the lower ninth ward on the Musicians Village and while Habitat is working hard the area is still in great need. I respect all of the people who found a way to come back and rebuild on their own but some areas are so abandoned, I wonder if they feel safe back in their old neighborhood. I know I would have problems sleeping if my "neighbors" were a block away.

    Anyways, my point was that people seem to think NOLA is back and it really is not back in many areas. Your efforts would be much appreciated here!
